Bass
fishing in Mexico is some of the fastest action found anywhere in the world. With its many
lakes stocked with fast growing hybrid black bass and very little local fishing pressure
Mexico offers the bass angler an angling experience of a lifetime. A year round warm water
climate provides the perfect conditions for rapid growth and the finest top water fishing
action you've ever experienced almost year round.
Presa Chuchillo
lies midway between Loredo, Texas and Monterrey, Mexico on a newly completed Super
Highway, roughly an hours drive from either city.
Monterrey
lies at the foot of the northeastern range of the beautiful Sierra Madre Oriental
Mountains, which can be seen on the horizon from the lake.
The lake has
been stocked with Florida strain Largemouth Bass and was scheduled to open to the public
in '96.
As you can
see from the photo above, due to a severe drought in that region of Mexico, the lake level is very
low. At normal pool the water level would cover the bush in the foreground with around 12'
of water. When full the lake will be nearly 80,000 surface acres in size. Currently it is
only one fourth that. It will take a large tropical storm to bring the water closer to
normal level.
Trips are not
being scheduled to the lake now due to the low water condition. Local bass clubs from
Monterrey are fishing the lake, however, and reporting great fishing.
Keep checking
back with this page because the fishing will be outstanding when the lake is ready for
fishing. Except for a few anglers from the Monterrey Bass Club the lake has never been
fished.
....Completion Scheduled for October '97
