he immensity of the Amazon Basin shows itself
as soon as you leave Manaus. The Amazon is the largest river in the world, and has 10
tributaries larger than the Mississippi. In many places, even these tributaries are
several miles wide!
Unbroken rain forest seems to stretch forever as you leave civilization
behind and enter a world unlike any you have ever experienced: screaming howler monkeys
and rainbow colored macaws; silent, watchful jaguars and dozing iguanas; and dolphins that
live in fresh water. You may not see them all, but they will certainly see you.
During the day, the air is alive with birds of all sizes, shapes and colors.
By night darkness presents its own symphony of music that only a place as vast and
mysterious as the Amazon could produce.
