GPS waypoints/coordinates and fishing information for Kentucky LakeThe following GPS waypoints/coordinates are provided for general reference.
Waypoints for Kentucky Lake Submitted by David A. McClung Waypoints
start at the dam and generally work south. Points for creeks and rivers (Big
Bear Creek, Jonathan Creek, Blood River, Big Sandy River, and Leatherwood Creek)
off the main lake are with main-lake locations for that section. Each line
starts with the waypoint name, then Lat/Lon, the time the waypoint was created,
and finally a description of the waypoint. Note that the naming convention used
is that the first letter of the lake name is the first letter of the waypoint.
All points here are named “K?????”. This keeps all of the Kentucky Lake
points together in my receiver. Duplicate
names: There
are at least two Jones Creeks. The one just north of Blood River is named KJONES
and the one in Big Sandy River is named KBJONE. There is also a Jones Hollow
named KJONEH. The two Trace Creeks are named KBTRAC in Big Sandy River, and
KTRACE for the one on the south end of the lake. There is also an Opossum Hollow
in Leatherwood Creek named KOPOSH and an Opossum Creek at the south end of the
lake named KOPOSC. With
some modifications you can load this file directly into your receiver. If you
have loaded files from your receiver to your computer, view this file in a text
editor and the translation of these points to a compatible file for your
receiver should be straightforward. Email me if you have questions. The
points are generally in the water, just off of the topographical feature
indicated. The waypoints will help you know where you are on the lake. Extreme
CAUTION should be used when navigating to the points.
USE THIS INFORMATION AT
YOUR OWN RISK! Expected accuracy of the waypoints is about 200 feet. Would
appreciate any feedback you can give me on the waypoints. Email inquiries to dmcclung@arlut.utexas.edu. I
don’t know much about fishing Kentucky Lake, but understand that the Big Bear
Creek area and the first mile of Blood River off the main lake are good areas.
There are also some good bluffs on the lake such as Cedar Bluff and Pine Bluff
if you like fishing rock walls.
