Lake Fork Fishing Report

This week on Lake Fork the water temp. is 52 depending where on the lake you are. We are at full pool and the gates are open with over an inch of rain last week. The upper ends of the lake are heavily stained with the middle of the lake lightly stained. The bite is improving with the onset of spring like weather conditions. We are still catching them on a reaction bite with chartreuse and white spinnerbaits and the old standby the red lipless crankbaits. Suspending jerk baits are a good bet now. Fish them slow with a long pause and most of the bites have come on the pause. This is a good tactic after a cold front when the bite gets tough. The fish are ready to spawn. They are waiting on water temp and moon phase. It shouldn't be long! Check pre spawn staging spots. The pockets that are protected from the north wind will start first. Upstream sides of secondary points and the edge of drains along with the back of creeks that narrow down and are 6 foot or less are good places to catch the fish of a lifetime right now! The soft plastic bite has started on Texas ridded lizards and should be in full swing at the end of the month if the arctic weather does not return to Texas.
