Nestled in the foothills of the western slope of Mexico's Sierra Madre's, in the colonial village of El Fuerte, is Villa Del Pescador. Located just a block off the picturesque town square, Villa Del Pescador is the place to begin and end your tour of the Copper Canyon, ( Barrancas Del Cobre ), enjoy the finest bass fishing in the world, or experience the exciting Whitewing Dove and Duck Hunting Mexico is famous for.

El Fuerte, only 90 kilometeres from the international airport in Los Mochis, is the most popular departure point to the Copper Canyon, one of the more spectacular geological wonders of Mexico. The ride to the Copper Canyon on the Chihuahua Railroad is reputed to be one of the most breathtaking in the world taking you from the arid desert foothills at El Fuerte, through spectacular canyons and tunnels, to the pine forested rim rim of the canyon.

Villa Del Pescador, a colonial villa with guest accommodations for 12, has a reputation for providing it's bass fishing, bird hunting and Copper Canyon clients, with good food and a quite place to relax while enjoying the many interesting activities the area has to offer. A short walk along the quaint cobblestone streets rewards guests with a number of interesting sites and photo opportunities such as the gardens at the town square, the 100 year old Cathedral and warm smiles from the friendly residents of El Fuerte.

Many interesting sites such as the Mayo village where you can visit with Indian pottery makers and the rug weaver are a short drive from town by bvan. Within 15 minutes you can be fishing at two of the more famous bass fishing lakes, Hidalgo or Dominguez.

One and a half hours van drive east and deeper into the foothills of the Sierra Madre's, is the new "Mystery Lake of Mexico," where a fishing camp for Villa Del Pescador anglers is under construction. Huites, constructed for irrigation in 1991, was stocked with fast growing aggressive Florida strain hybrid black bass three years ago. The lake has been protected from fishing or netting since the stocking and will be managed as a catch and release bass fishing honey hole. Based on a few specially arranged preview trips, when the lake opens October 15, 1997, you can expect to catch large numbers of extremely aggressive bass from 2 to 5 pounds . The word is leaking out, and accessibility to the lake is limited, so get in on the hottest bass fishing action Mexico has to offer, and make your reservations early.

The sky doesn't turn black with flights of Whitewing doves or wild ducks as we heard for years when hunters talked about wing shooting in Mexico, but there is no denying the hunting is outstanding. El Fuerte lies on the edge of a fertile coastal plain that is rich with agriculture. The crops provide an abundant supply of food for the Whitewing and the coastal marshes are the winter homes for a variety of aquatic birds. Hunting is not a sport practiced by Mexican residents, so unlike northern hunting areas, there is little hunting pressure, and as a result, bird hunting in Mexico is well known to be the best on the continent.
