Bill Rice, editor of WON BASS and the host of the trip wrote: "In more than 30 years of fishing and outdoor writing I’ve had some pretty incredible fishing adventures, ... but I’ve never caught so many big bass on one trip as we did last month (May) on the WON BASS trip to Lake Huites." "When we first visited the lake earlier this year to check it out for this upcoming trip with WON readers the fishing was good, and we looked forward to returning to Villa Del Pescador for more action on 3 and 4 pound bass."

"We arrived at the lake about 4 p.m. on Wednesday and headed for the waters. ... Then Phil (another guest on the trip) nailed one about 6 pounds on a crank plug, then another. I was pitching a worm, but quickly decided to switch to a crank plug ... Within a few casts I had an estimated 7-pound -plus lunker in the boat...."

"I think I caught about a dozen bass in a row, all on the red shad ribbon-tail worm, and we figured these bass to be about 5 to 6 pounders."

"Another guest (Drover) said, ’The largest I caught weighed 6.6 pounds on my hand held digital scale, but I was able to catch quite a few in the 6-pound range.’"
