Texas Black Bass Unlimited (T.B.B.U.) is a non-profit (501c) corporation organized in 1985. Through the efforts of the original handful of conservation minded freshwater fishermen, the organization has grown to become a statewide organization of fishermen and other conservation minded individuals today.
In keeping with these goals and objectives, T.B.B.U. has accomplished the following:
| 1. Contributed over $100,000 toward the completion of the Texas Fresh Water Fisheries Center, an innovative aquarium and hatchery complex managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. | |
| 2. Promoted annual inner-city youth fishing programs to teach them the joys of fishing and build character. | |
| 3. Marked dangerous river channels accesses. | |
| 4. Built public fishing piers for the elderly, handicapped, and underprivileged. | |
| 5. Established fresh water habitats in several Texas lakes. | |
| 6. Worked vigorously to oppose legislation relating to our Texas streams, rivers, and lakes that was either harmful or not cost effective. One of our current ongoing projects is the Red River Chloride Project. | |
| T.B.B.U. is supported in these efforts through the annual dues from their membership and from contributions received from both individuals and companies. T.B.B.U. has a Platinum Sponsor program through which companies can be associated and recognized as a contributor to the organization. Platinum Sponsors are recognized by T.B.B.U. in all publications and events. |
T.B.B.U. publishes a bi-monthly magazine Texas Black Bass through which we keep our membership and other interested parties informed of current conservation issues and fishing techniques. This publication is just one of the places where Platinum Sponsors are recognized for their generous support of the organizations efforts.
T.B.B.U. also holds two major fund raising events each year. The original event started in Dallas is Conservation FishFest and was soon followed by the Houston Gala. Both events feature a silent auction, live auction, dinner, awards and recognition ceremony, and a concert to complete the evenings activities. In addition, Platinum Sponsors are invited to a private cocktail reception with the evenings entertainment prior to the main event.
Past event entertainment has included:
T.B.B.U. holds a members only Black Bass fishing tournament following Conservation FishFest. This tournament allows individuals to fish with one of the top fishing pros within the industry. These pros donate their time to T.B.B.U. and are part of the live auction.
Some of the top bass fishing pros donating their time to T.B.B.U. are:
Historically, T.B.B.U. has been able to donate in excess of 50% of the gross proceeds raised from these two events towards projects identified by the board of directors. All members of the board of directors volunteer their time and efforts to promote T.B.B.U. and do not receive any compensation or benefit from the organization, including spending their own funds to attend board of directors meetings.
