Mazatlan - tropical sunny beaches, sportfishing, billfishing, bass fishing, great nightlife and dining - what more could you ask for in a fishing vacation destination? Area Activities:
The weather is very pleasant from November until May. Sometime in June, and definitely from July until September, it is quite hot and humid. January through March are the coolest months, with typical daytime temperatures in the high 70's to low 80's and evening temperatures in the low 60's. A great time to play golf or tennis. How do locals cope with the summer months? Simple, the Mexicans have a great invention called the Siesta. You get up very early, around 6am, and do whatever you want to do outside that is strenuous, such as playing tennis or exercising. You have lunch from 12 until 2 and then take a nice long nap from 2 to 4. After that, you start what amounts to another day, and go on with your business until 8 or 10 in the evening. All in all, it is a great way of life.

To get to Mazatlan from the USA your choice of originating cities is quite limited. There are charters during the winter with direct flights from Mineapolis and Denver, as well as Salt Lake City and Oakland. In terms of regularly scheduled flights on American carriers, you can fly Alaska Air from Los Angeles, Continental out of Houston, or America West from Phoenix. There is a new daily one stop flight out of Dallas with American Airlines that stops in Guadaljara. The only other airlines with regularly scheduled flights into Mazatlan are Mexicana, Aeromexico, and AeroCalifornia, which The airport is about 40 minutes from the city. You can hire an individual taxi by buying a ticket at the booth to your right as you exit from baggage claim. The cost is about $20USD. You can also ride in a shuttle bus for about $7USD. Also, don't worry about carrying your bags. Just after customs there are lots of strong young men eager to help you to the bus or taxi. A one dollar tip will make them happy and save your back. Warning: as you exit baggage claim you will be approached by numerous people offering you a "free ride" from the airport. No Virginia, there is no such thing as a free ride, not even in Mexico. These nice people are all selling Mazatlan timeshares, and you will be required to sit through a sales presentation to "collect" your free ride.
