Amenities:
As you takeoff from the airport at La Paragua, Venezuela you will be traveling back in time to a land where the closest road is over 100 miles away and all travel is done by dugout canoe. Food and supplies for the camp are hauled four and a half hours up river, in forty foot long dug-out canoes, powered by outboard motors. Twenty minutes after takeoff you land on the camp's 400 meter landing strip, dubbed Uraima International by previous visitors, and get a very real sense of entering another time.

The mountains are dotted with diamond and gold mines. Supplies to the mining camps move by dugout; and often during your stay you will see canoes making their way upstream loaded down with barrels of fuel and stacked high with supplies. One gets the feeling, while here, you have traveled back in time to the gold rush days of 19th century North America.

Uraima Camp is built on a sandy bank of La Paragua river, about 100 miles upstream from Lake Guri and its sister camp, Peacock Bay Lodge. The camp, quite luxurious for the area, consists of 12 Cabanas or Churuatas, as they are called in Venezuela, and a large thatch roofed dining area. Nine of the Churuatas are enclosed and each has two bedrooms, with two beds and a common bathroom with shower. The rooms are very neat and comfortable yet provide a very real sense of being a part of the jungle. Three Churuatas are open sided and each has 4 hammocks for those who would like more of an outdoor experience. A very clean bathroom with shower is shared by the 3 open Churuatas.

Meals are prepared by the camp owners and are very delicious. You will have three meals served each day. The menu will consist of steak, chicken and pork in generous portions and seasoned to suit the pickiest of eaters. Potatoes and rice are among the more common vegetables served as well as local specialties. Be sure to try the picante. It is delicious, if you like spicy seasoning, but don't ask for the recipe.

Payara Fishing Packages from $1,500.00 USD 3 days 4 nights

Rain Forest Eco Tours from $1,500.00 USD 4 day 5 nights Area Activities:
Several eco tour day trips are available from the camp that follow hiking trails to the top of nearby mountains. Along these trails you are likely to see local wildlife like, deer, tapir, anteaters, monkeys, parrots and many other exotic tropical animals. The jungle itself is very impressive with enormous trees that emerge from the dense RainForest canopy and spread like giant umbrellas above. Many trails follow crystal clear streams, some with beautiful waterfalls.

Of course you can see the jungle by canoe as well. These magnificent dugouts are made locally by the Indians. Uraima Camp canoes are 40 feet long, very stable and provide a safe and easy way to see the beauty of the area and its rich history.

Foot trails provide access to the magnificent RainForest for the Eco Tourist. The RainForest is lush and rich with wildlife and plant life. English speaking guides are thoroughly familiar with all of the jungle life and will make your adventure educational as well as one of the most interesting and adventurous experiences of your life.

Combination and custom RainForest eco tours are available. A combo trip is available to Peacock Bay Lodge. Peacock Bay is located approximately 100 miles downstream on the shore of Lake Guri. This newly remodeled camp offers the jungle adventurer almost luxurious accommodations amidst the RainForest and some of the world's finest Peacock Bass fishing.

The friendly and hospitable people of Venezuela will make you feel as though you are part of their family.
